Renault's Fernando Alonso wins Singapore Grand Prix

Fernando Alonso was crowned Formula One's prince of darkness on Sunday, after streaking to the chequered flag at the sport's first night-time grand prix in Singapore. The Spaniard's triumph at Formula One's 800th race was heralded by customary champagne-fuelled celebrations, the podium jubilation adhering to time-honoured motor racing etiquette. But while Renault's twice former world champion will be forever noted as the Singapore GP's first winner, the F1 honour roll will not so easily record the biggest winner of the weekend -- the South-East Asian city-state whose staging of a spectacular and innovative race has left the motor racing world agog with admiration.

Spain's Fernando Alonso snapped a year-long win drought to take the Singapore Grand Prix, winning a drama-filled first ever night race as a comical error cost Felipe Massa dearly. The Brazilian who started the race in pole position, was given the green light to leave the pits but the fuel hose was still attached as he accelerated away, spraying petrol and knocking over one of the pit crew.

No points for Ferrari as Massa finished in 13th position and teammate Kimi Raikkonen failed to finish after ramming his car into the barriers with just four laps left. Kimi Raikkonen has conceded that any hope he had of defending his world title has evaporated after his disastrous Singapore Grand Prix. The Ferrari star finished outside the points for his fourth consecutive race after ramming his car into the barriers with just four laps left when he was in fifth. It leaves the Finn 27 points adrift of leader Lewis Hamilton with three races to go.

"It was a pretty small chance anyhow," he said of his title chances. "I'm not sad for my fifth place but I'm sorry for the team to lose those points. But for sure we'll try to do better next race."

Raikkonen has not won a race since the Spanish Grand Prix in April and the last time he scored any championship points was at Germany in July, when he finished sixth. But his position at Ferrari is guaranteed after signing a new contract and he vowed to do all he could to help the team win the constructors' title. "I am not used to giving up and I will do my very best to try and help the team reach its targets," he told reporters.

With teammate Felipe Massa also finishing outside the points, there is every chance that Raikkonen will be under orders to help the Brazilian in his bid to win the drivers' title. Massa is seven points behind McLaren's Hamilton. "I know what the team wants -- they want to win the world championship," he said.

"We will see what happens. I'm trying to win races too and we will see what happens. I'm out of the championship anyhow." He added that he crashed as he tried to pass Timo Glock to lift himself into fourth position. "I was trying to attack Glock in case he might make a mistake but I went slightly wide at the chicane, jumping over the kerb, and when the car landed I lost control and ended up in the barriers," he said.

"Clearly, morale is not high today."

Williams driver Nico Rosberg came in second, 2.95 seconds behind the Renault while McLaren's Lewis Hamilton finished in third place. The Briton extends his lead over Massa in the championship standings to seven points with just three races to go.

Lamborghini Reventon

Introducing Lamborghini REVENTON

lamborghini prides itself on being the extraordinary manufacturer of extreme super sports cars without compromise.Sensuality and provocation characterise every Lamborghini, with an aggressively innovative style.“However, the Lamborghini Reventon is the most extreme of all, a true automotive superlative. Our designers at the Lamborghini Style Centre took the technical base of the Murciélago LP640 and compressed and intensified its DNA, its genetic code,” affirms Stephan Winkelmann, President and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A.

Interesting Fact of Reventon

The Lamborghini Reventon is not destined to remain a one-off. A total of 20 Lamborghini friends and collectors will be able to own this extraordinary car and, naturally, enjoy the incomparable pleasure of driving it. The Price for one of it cost approximately 1 Million Euro (without taxes).
The name Lamborghini Reventon has been chosen according to Lamborghini tradition. Lamborghini Reventon was a fighting bull, owned by the Don Rodriguez family. It is included in the list of the most famous bulls ever and is known for killing the famed bullfighter Felix Guzman in 1943.

Born in Sant’Agata Bolognese

The Lamborghini Reventon has been entirely designed in Sant’Agata Bolognese, the original birthplace of the Lamborghini and the native home of every super car born under the sign of the bull. The design drawn up in Lamborghini’s Centro Stile (Style Centre) is fine-tuned in close collaboration with the Lamborghini Research and Development Department. Thus, the Lamborghini Reventon is not only “haute couture” but it also stands out for its elevated dynamism whilst being entirely suitable for every day use.

Inspired by the fastest airplanes

The present day Lamborghini models are distinguished by the clear language of their shape. The coherent proportions of the Murciélago and Gallardo highlight their power and dynamism. Sharp edges, precise lines and clean surfaces: these are ingredients of a style reduced to the essential. Each element is created exactly according to its function; ornaments and decorations are totally foreign to a Lamborghini.
With the Lamborghini Reventon the Centro Stile designers have coherently developed this philosophy, inspired by another sphere where speed and dynamism reign absolute: modern aeronautics, responsible for the fastest and most agile airplanes in the world. This has created an extremely precise, technically striking style with a new vitality: interrupted lines and contorted surfaces create a fascinating play of light, giving the car incredible movement.

TFT display similar to an airplane

The same innovative force applied to the exterior design characterises the cockpit of the Lamborghini Reventon. Designed and created using Alcantara, carbon, aluminium and leather that comply with the top quality standards, the interior is inspired by the next generation cockpits: just like in modern airplanes, the instruments comprise three TFT liquid crystal displays with innovative display modes. At the touch of a button, the driver can choose from two vehicle information display modes. The instruments are housed in a structure milled from a solid aluminium block, protected by a carbon fibre casing. The G-Force-Meter is also completely new: this display shows the dynamic drive forces, longitudinal acceleration during acceleration and braking, as well as transversal acceleration around bends. These forces are represented by the movement of an indicator on a graduated 3D grid depending on the direction and intensity of the acceleration. A similar instrument can be found in the airplanes. Formula One teams also use a similar device to analyse dynamic forces.

A masterpiece with tested technology

The technology found in the Murciélago LP640 has not been modified. The engine in the LP640 forwards is the classic twelve-cylinder engine with 6.5 litre displacement. Only for this car, Lamborghini guarantees, an astounding 650 HP (478 kW) at 8,000 revolutions per minute (rpm). The huge torque, equal to maximum 660 Nm, ensures a powerful switch from any number of revolutions: even the slightest pressure on the accelerator is spontaneously transformed into thrust. The robotised e.gear changes gear faster than even the most expert driver. In addition, the permanent Viscous Traction four-wheel drive system ensures that every force is constantly translated into movement.
As in the original Murciélago LP640, the Lamborghini Reventon accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.4 seconds, with a maximum speed over 340 km/h.

Made of carbon fibre and precision

Although it is based on the extraordinarily successful Murciélago LP640, the exterior design of the Lamborghini Reventon is completely new. Just like the base model, the exterior is made of CFC, a composite carbon fibre material, which is as stable as it is light. The exterior components are glued and fixed to the body comprised of CFC and steel.
The front is characterised by the acute angle of the central ‘arrow’ and by the powerful forward-facing air intakes. Although they do not supply air directly to the turbine like an airplane, bearing in mind the 650 hp, an abundant volume of air is necessary to cool the carbon brake disks and the six cylinder callipers.

Born to become a legend

Since its foundation, Lamborghini has been a creator of trends in the world of sports cars and has always manufactured cars with an absolutely unmistakable character. Models such as the Miura or Countach, for example, were veritable forerunners and rapidly acquired the status of timeless classic cars. From the moment they are launched, every new Lamborghini promises to become a legend, destined to become a sought-after and precious possession.
With the Lamborghini Reventon, Lamborghini has done it again; it has created an unequalled super car; the perfect synthesis between the exclusivity and appeal of a limited edition design masterpiece, and the dynamism and driveability of a standard sports car. Thus, the Lamborghini legend is further enhanced by another, stylish future classic.

Flying Fish

Flying fish can be seen jumping out of warm ocean waters worldwide. Their streamlined torpedo shape helps them gather enough underwater speed to break the surface, and their large, wing-like pectoral fins get them airborne.

Flying fish are thought to have evolved this remarkable gliding ability to escape predators, of which they have many. Their pursuers include mackerel, tuna, swordfish, marlin, and other larger fish. For their sustenance, flying fish feed on a variety of foods, including plankton.

There are about 40 known species of flying fish. Beyond their useful pectoral fins, all have unevenly forked tails, with the lower lobe longer than the upper lobe. Many species have enlarged pelvic fins as well and are known as four-winged flying fish.

The process of taking flight, or gliding, begins by gaining great velocity underwater, about 37 miles (60 kilometers) per hour. Angling upward, the four-winged flying fish breaks the surface and begins to taxi by rapidly beating its tail while it is still beneath the surface. It then takes to the air, sometimes reaching heights over 4 feet (1.2 meters) and gliding long distances, up to 655 feet (200 meters). Once it nears the surface again, it can flap its tail and taxi without fully returning to the water. Capable of continuing its flight in such a manner, flying fish have been recorded stretching out their flights with consecutive glides spanning distances up to 1,312 feet (400 meters).

Flying fish are attracted to light, like a number of sea creatures, and fishermen take advantage of this with substantial results. Canoes, filled with enough water to sustain fish, but not enough to allow them to propel themselves out, are affixed with a luring light at night to capture flying fish by the dozens. There is currently no protection status on these animals.

Kangaroo Mouse

A kangaroo mouse is either one of the two species of jumping mouse (genus Microdipodops) native to the deserts of the Southwestern United States, predominantly found in the state of Nevada. The name "kangaroo mouse" refers to the species' extraordinary jumping ability, as well as its habit of bipedal locomotion. The two species are:

• Pale Kangaroo Mouse -
Microdipodops pallidus
• Dark Kangaroo Mouse -
Microdipodops megacephalus

Both species of kangaroo mouse live in sandy desert ecosystems, and forage for seeds and vegetation amongst the scrub brush of their native habitat. The Dark Kangaroo Mouse is also known to feed occasionally on insects and carrion. Interestingly, the mouse never drinks water, instead deriving it metabolically from the foods it eats. The kangaroo mouse collects food and maintains large caches in their burrows, which are excavated to a length of between 3 and 8 feet (1 to 2.5 meters). The burrow, the entrance to which the mouse covers during daylight hours, is also used to raise litters of between 2 and 7 young. The Pale Kangaroo Mouse burrows only in fine sand, while the Dark Kangaroo Mouse prefers fine, gravelly soils but may also burrow in sand or sandy soil. Kangaroo mice are nocturnal, and are most active in the two hours following sunset. They are believed to hibernate during cold weather.
The kangaroo mice are closely related to the kangaroo rats, which belong to the same subfamily, Dipodomyinae.

Future Weapons

Cornershot

Combining a swivel barrel with a video sighting array, this aptly named weapons system allows the operator to observe and fire at a target around corners without exposing himself to enemy fire. The barrel can rotate up to 63 degrees to the left or right, and the video/thermal imaging feed can be transmitted to team members.

In the latest version (shown here), the weapon is fitted with a 40mm grenade launcher, but the stock and mount can actually accept a range of small arms types, including 9mm handguns, the M-16 and smoke grenade launchers. Its Israeli designers and other experts see great potential for the weapon in anti-terrorist operations.

2009 Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade

Honda have released the first official pics of the 2009 Fireblade. And the biggest new development on the bike seems to be Honda’s new-generation sportsbike-spec Combined ABS, which will now be available as an option on the 2009 CBR1000RR. The bike will be available in MotoGP-replica Repsol Honda colours (though such a bike was first prepared privately by an Italian Honda dealer a few months ago), and a red-blue-and-white HRC paintscheme will also be offered.

But coming back to the new Combined ABS on the new Fireblade, according to Honda, the system has been optimized for sportsbike, taking into account things like short wheelbase and extreme steering geometry. Honda’s C-ABS doesn’t take control away from the rider and allows very hard braking before cutting in. And even when it does get activated, the anti-lock system acts in a subtle manner, never upsetting the machine’s stability.

The 2009 CBR1000RR’s engine, suspension and chassis remain unchanged over the 2008 model. However, various carbonfibre accessories will be available for the new Fireblade, as will be a slightly bigger screen, rear seat cowl, soft luggage that can be mounted on the rear seat / fuel tank, and anti-theft alarm.
